# Linux Community and Source-Port Targets — October 2026 Research inputs: Linux gaming, LinuxQuestions and Linux application/TUI communities, plus the historical Linux Gaming source-port index. That index warns it is **heavily outdated**; each candidate source-project URL was separately checked in October 2026. HTTP 200 is not a source licence, full Git checkout, 68040 build or verified AmigaOS port. **63 new catalogue candidates across two discovery waves:** 36 games and 27 applications/tools. These are research leads only, not compiled or released ports. ## Why smaller Linux projects are worth considering Small C / SDL games and text-mode C tools can exercise OpenGPU, OpenInput, OpenAudio, files and basic networking without the engine size of Doom 3 or a modern 3D title. Large C++, Java, Perl or newer runtime stacks require memory/toolchain feasibility research first. OpenMulticore is useful only where work can be safely and measurably split. ## Verified repository links and proposed engineering treatment | Project | Kind | Priority | Verified public repo URL | Forum/source lead | Initial assessment | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | Angband | game | P1 | [Upstream source](https://github.com/angband/angband) | [Discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/opensourcegames/comments/1qwgr2e/open_source_games_list/) | Long-running C roguelike: native terminal gameplay first, OpenInput/file integration and optional tiled UI second. | | Blob Wars: Metal Blob Solid | game | P1 | [Upstream source](https://github.com/perpendicular-dimensions/blobwars) | [Discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1wnkuif/open_source_games/) | Small SDL action/platform title and attractive Linux-community recommendation. Verify C/C++ runtime, endian/alignment, target memory and dependency closure. - Sources are only proven at the repository landing-page level; pin a full SHA and inspect COPYING/LICENCE/third-party notices before building. ## Forum and catalogue references - [r/linux_gaming, open-source games (September 2026)](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1wnkuif/open_source_games/) - [r/linux_gaming, classic open-source recommendations](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/ba1p86/open_source_games/) - [r/opensourcegames, source game list (February 2026)](https://www.reddit.com/r/opensourcegames/comments/1qwgr2e/open_source_games_list/) - [r/linux, favourite TUI apps](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1j3mgsx/what_are_folks_favorite_tui_apps/) - [LinuxQuestions: games for slower machines](https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-games-33/open-source-game-suggestions-for-slower-machine-to-take-me-through-these-darkest-days-4175756455/) - [Linux Gaming: List of Source Ports (historical, explicitly outdated)](https://linux-gaming.kwindu.eu/index.php/List_of_Source_Ports) - [Linux gaming: Old Linux games](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1kcl9fi/do_you_know_any_old_linux_games/) See catalogue.json for current rights holds, exact engineering next gates and AmigaChrome programme status.
